Clinical Experience
Dr. Wheeler’s work emphasizes identifying patterns and environmental factors creating barriers within a person’s daily life. Sessions emphasize clear communication to understand how thoughts influence life choices. Dr. Wheeler partners with clients to learn healthy interaction guided by incremental behavioral development and corrective emotional experiences.
Dr. Wheeler has worked within a variety of clinical settings including hospitals, treatment facilities, community mental health centers and universities. Her collaborative approach generates a safe space empowering clients to accomplish goals and create lasting change. Her kind and empathic nature builds trust and allows each client to acknowledge and engage in creating the life they desire. Dr. Wheeler incorporates practice-based interventions into individualized treatment goals for adolescents, adults, couples, families, and groups.
Dr. Wheeler received her Bachelor’s Degree in History of Art at the University of Michigan with further graduate-level study of the Art Market at Christie’s Education in New York. She integrates her passion for the arts with her focus as a therapist. Dr. Wheeler received a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan and her Doctorate in Social Work at Florida Atlantic University with research inquiry focusing on the social worker’s use of self and stages of development.
Dr. Wheeler combines her passions for practice and life-long learning as a clinical instructor at Florida Atlantic University. She currently teaches in the Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work programs, as well as postgraduate supervision for MHC and MSW registered interns. Dr. Wheeler is licensed in Colorado, treating couples as an affiliate therapist at CBT Denver and previously taught in the online MSW program at Denver University.
